KNIFE ANATOMY

Anatomy of an Emerson Knife

HOW TO USE THE WAVE FEATURE

An important part of knowing the anatomy of an Emerson Knife is knowing how to utilize it. Using the  patented Emerson Wave Feature correctly, you can deploy the knife out of pocket rapidly. It takes some practice to master. See how it's done in images below.

BLADE STYLE: KARAMBIT

The Karambit design comes directly from an ancient Indonesian utility knife used for self defense, but Emerson's Combat Karambit is designed as a fighting weapon. You can identify a Karambit knife by its claw-like blade.

Fun Fact: The Emerson Combat Karambit is the original folding karambit. There are many like it, but nothing beats the original!

Standoff Spacers have been standard on all Emerson Knife models since 2014. Any knife ordered from our site from that year will receive one of these models.

Anatomy of an Emerson Knife Lanyard

Lanyard Holes serve one purpose: attaching a paracord lanyard if you choose to get one. We get asked that question quite a lot!

The Thumb Button is there so that you may open the knife single handedly . Specifically with your thumb. Some people are naturals at it and some have to learn. Either way, it's very useful.

I just love the feeling of holding my new Combat Karambit in my hands. Sadly I cannot carry it or any knife as an EDC in public places where I live, but at least I can flip etc. with it at home if I want to, witout any restrictions (OK, there might be some restrictions if my wife is near though…).

I got mine as a birthday present in 2003, blade is numbered 0128. I have carried everyday since. The knife has been the best Knife I have ever owned. When I first got it I did some serious training with it and it has been my constant companion since. I did lose the very tip in a hog but it holds a edge and has doubled as a work knife many times (skinning wire, cutting rope, etc.). I have other Emerson knives but my karambit is the knife that always goes with me everywhere.

this is a beautiful piece of hardware. it is quite frankly the best knife i have by far. got it today and was amazed at its durability and craftsmanship. after looking at the back of the box i see mr. Emersons statement; a hard use knife that can be trusted this he promises. well i truly believe him after seeing and using the knife personally. i dont trust easy but this is quality and a reliable promise. so thank you mr. emerson, i greatly appriciate your work and your promise.

I been carrying my Super Karambit as a last ditch back up her in Iraq, Mali and Central America for over 10 years, it gives me peace of mind, knowing, abduction or out of ammo when within hands reach of the threat, I can always bring the fight to my adversary. Best blade I ever had.

I've been carrying this knife for 17 -years-. Mine is number 0479 and is from when they were still stamping dates on the blade. The only issue I've -ever- had is that I tipped it not long after I got it, looking at the photos of the current model I wonder if that wasn't a common thing as the blade design has changed. Nitty gritty? This is the only knife I've ever kept track of for this amount of time. If the price makes you hesitate, don't worry, this knife will certainly outlast you. The wave works just as well now as when I first got it, it holds an edge like a dream. It has a fair amount of real world utility, of course, but from the standpoint of self-defense there is no knife I'd rather carry. It's easy to draw, feels perfect in the hand, and as another reviewer notes feels natural in a reverse grip. I'll easily 10/10 or 5 star or A+ this knife, whatever it takes to tell you this is easily the best knife I've ever owned.

The Combat Karambit (with Wave Shaped Feature) is probably one of the most well thought-out self-defense tools on the market. The Wave Shaped Feature allows the Karambit to be deployed instantaneously, which is very important in ambush type situations where situational awareness is not enough. You can deploy the knife by sticking your index finger into the loop in the handle, and in one fluid movement grip the knife in reverse grip. This allows the owner to punch with their strong side, and, at the same time hook into the threat with the blade. Basically a tiger claw attachment to the human body. Highly recommended for self defense. This design is easily carried in front or rear pocket. Has a detachable/adjustable clip for multiple carry options. For jurisdictions where you can't legally carry a firearm, this Karambit and pepper spray are hard to beat.

    A very beautiful item.
But Karambits are fighting knives and a simple edge karambit is useless.

Been carrying my Karambit for a few days now and man I have to say this is the best feeling karambit in the hand and in pocket! Ernest and the team really outdid themselves with this one and it's by far one of the best knives I own! Highly recommend you pick one up! Not to mention you get tripple points from it.

  9. Will Pelton

This is the best self defense knife on the commercial market at this time. All concealed carry weapons are a compromise yet this one gives up very little. We would all like to carry a short sword, machete or Kukri with us but that just won't do now will it! We do have the Karambit from Mr. Emerson. I carry this knife, sell this knife and teach the use of this knife. It simply works and I have never had a student not gain proficiency in a short amount of time. I can always teach students the “draw” in minutes. Depending on the fighting skills and martial arts background of the student they can become very effective at fighting with a knife in a few classes if not immediately. Bravo Emerson Knives for creating a simple and reliable fighting tool that we can all carry. Will Pelton- Florida
